Following being knocked unconscious on the pitch throughout a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy game against Tranmere Rovers, Tom Bender has now been discharged from hospital and is now resting at home.
Many were concerned that the on-loan defender had received a severe trauma or even a broken neck in the accident which occurred in the 39th minute when he collided with goalie Ian Dunbavin and Tranmere’s Lucas Akins.
Bender was knocked unconscious and was treated on the pitch with a and oxygen for 30 minutes before an ambulance came. He was then taken for a CAT scan at the Royal Blackburn Hospital where he received the all-clear but was held in hospital for a couple of days for observation.
The match was cancelled after the incident, and it has been rescheduled to come about on Wednesday 12 October. Bender will not be playing as he is currently back at his parent club Colchester for a few weeks as they rebounds.
